DIY Spray Recipes & Uses

Below are several spray recipes (garden pest repellent, general cleaner, disinfecting spray, bathroom spray, etc.). Adjust volumes proportionally as needed.

1. Garden / Pest Repellent Spray

Good for deterring insects (aphids, mites, ants, etc.).

Recipe A

• 1 quart (≈ 1 L) water (preferably distilled)

• 1 tsp (≈ 5 mL) mild (unscented) liquid soap (as surfactant)

• 20 drops peppermint essential oil

• 15 drops eucalyptus essential oil

• 10 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

1. Mix soap into the water first (so it dissolves).

2. Add essential oils, shake well.

3. Apply in early morning or late evening (less sun) to the foliage (undersides of leaves).

4. Reapply every few days or after rain.

2. All-Purpose / Surface Cleaning Spray

Recipe B

• 1 cup (250 mL) distilled water

• 1 cup (250 mL) white vinegar

• 20 drops tea tree oil

• 15 drops lavender oil

Use on counters, bathroom surfaces, sinks. Vinegar helps break down residues; tea tree / lavender add antimicrobial lift.

3. Disinfecting / “Lysol-style” Essential Oil Spray

For more germ-killing power (though note caveats above about full disinfection):

Recipe C

• Fill ~16 oz (≈ 475 mL) glass spray bottle about ¾ full with 70% isopropyl alcohol or high proof alcohol.

• Add ½ teaspoon hydrogen peroxide

• Add:
   • 30 drops tea tree essential oil
   • 15 drops eucalyptus essential oil
   • 15 drops lavender essential oil
   • 15 drops sweet orange essential oil

• Top off with distilled water

• Shake well before each use

4. Bathroom / Mold-Fighting Spray

• 4 oz water

• 4 oz white vinegar

• 6-10 drops tea tree oil

• 3-7 drops peppermint oil

Spray on showers, tile, grout, mildew-prone areas. Let sit, then wipe
